Small Businesses during COVID-19: Understanding the reality

COVID 19 has turned our lives upside down. Not only have we had to face the fear and in some cases heartbreaking consequences of the virus, but we have had to navigate the challenges and uncertainties that have resulted from the measures put in place to stop the spread.

Many of you are small businesses owners and the hardest hit economically in this pandemic. You have been forced to make tough decisions, without knowing what is around the corner, hoping to preserve the businesses that you cherish. These are the very businesses that are the heart and soul of our community.

Since late March, the federal government has offered a number of financial support programs to assist small businesses. Unfortunately, I have heard from many of you that although you are grateful for the intent of these programs, you have found that the process, terms and conditions and overall funding have fallen short and failed to provide the support you need.

With the introduction of a second wave of COVID 19, the timeline for a return to business as usual is increasingly hard to predict. As your federal elected representative, I am committed to supporting you, our community and our country to weather these challenges. As a small business owner, I would like to ask you to complete the attached survey to provide insight into the reality you are facing and to outline the support that would help you to position for success after COVID.

As a former small business owner myself, I know that the last six months have been anything but easy for you. Thank you for all the work you do to provide our community with important products and services and our country with economic growth. We need successful small businesses like yours, and I look forward to understanding what we can do to together to ensure that happens.
